partner conversation
perfect for business partners, spouses, co-leaders or any kind of relationship
This exercise helps partners build understanding and alignment, fostering deeper conversations and mutual respect.
share and compare values
start here
if both people in the partnership haven’t done the individual reflection first, proceed here to do that exercise. Then return to the partner conversation
partner 1 values
partner 2 values
step 1
each person lays out their values in front. If any are shared, they can be in a middle column. It is not necessary that any values are shared.
shared values
partner 1 values
partner 2 values
step 2
each partner takes turns talking about their unique values and explaining:
what it means to them
how is shows up
when they notice it the most
partners discuss and ask questions to deepen understanding of the other person.
step 3
move to the shared column and see if there is commonality in the meaning of the shared values. If there are differences, understand and discuss.
partner 1
“I value acceptance and empathy so I often don’t challenge decisions I disagree with.”
partner 2
“I think because i value courage, i sometimes don’t see the need for acceptance. I see how that might make you feel since it is your value”
step 4
explore how have these values within your partnership influences your dynamic in:
decision making
problem solving
flexibility or rigidity
congratulations!
